Microdermal Piercing Aftercare Instructions
The following are your aftercare instructions. These instructions are easy to follow and very important. They are essential in ensuring that your microdermal piercing will both heal properly and look good for many years to come.
It is recommended that you do not change, twist or fiddle with the microdermal piercing for at least 3 months. You will actually heal from the outside in so a microdermal piercing will look healed long before it actually is. Full healing can take 3 to 6 months.
While your piercing is healing, treat it with the same respect as you would any other kind of broken skin. Do not touch the piercing or let someone else touch, kiss or lick the piercing. Do not let the piercing come in contact with another person’s bodily fluid.
For at least the first 72 hours, it is recommended you wear a firmly placed transparent dressing to keep pressure on the piercing so it stays in place while the initial tissue forms. A clean steri strip skin closure is recommended daily for the next 14 days.
Anytime after 2 weeks, if you find yourself catching the microdermal a lot, you can wear a clean steri strip or breathable dressing to help prevent this while the piercing heals. Always ensure that you remove this dressing and allow the piercing to air over night and that you clean and air dry the microdermal piercing before applying a fresh dressing. Touching your microdermal piercing with anything, including a towel, could mean transmitting bacteria.
Soaking is not recommended during the healing process. Water can gather in the pocket causing the area to swell slightly and place pressure on the base holding the piercing in place and push it up through the skin or causing it to tilt slightly. To this end, baths are also not recommended during the healing process.
Avoid hot tubs and public pools during the healing process. Also avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for a few weeks. Definitely avoid tanning oils, lotions and sand. Do not wear tight fitting clothes which might irritate the microdermal piercing. Change bed linens at least once a week.
Never use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on or around your microdermal piercing because they may damage healthy cells and cause scar tissue. Petroleum jelly products are not recommended for aftercare as they can collect and promote the growth of bacteria. Bactine should not be used and is not recommended for puncture wounds.
Forbidden Tattoo and Piercing highly recommends using either Black Cat Aftercare Piercing Solution or H2Ocean Piercing Aftercare Spray.
