What does that mean?
That means a microdermal piercing only has one visible end.
How is a microdermal piercing different from a surface piercing?
A surface piercing is a two point piercing with a different entry and exit point. It has two visible ends and is more easily rejected by the body than a microdermal piercing.
How is a microdermal piercing different from a dermal anchor?
A dermal anchor has a larger base with holes in it so tissue can grow through it. Because of this, a pocket must be created under the skin to insert a dermal anchor and they must be surgically removed.
What kind of jewelry is used for a microdermal piercing?
We use the latest innovation in microdermal piercing called skin divers. Skin divers are beautifully decorative, are quick and easy to put in and can be placed very close together.
What is a skin diver?
A skin diver is a safer form of dermal anchor. There is less damage to the skin so the skin diver heals quicker with less bleeding and less scar tissue and it is easier to remove.
What does a skin diver look like?
A skin diver is shaped like a rivet. The base can be easily implanted under the skin with little effort or discomfort. The small arrow shaped base has no holes and is usually much easier to remove than a dermal anchor. The top is flat and sits flush on the surface of the skin.
Where can I place a skin diver?
Skin divers allow the skin to move, pull and stretch so placement is possible almost anywhere and they can easily be grouped together to form intricate patterns.
What are skin divers made of?
To avoid the risk of rejection, our skin divers are made of high quality grade 23 titanium which is also known as implant grade titanium.
What is titanium?
Titanium is the most bio-compatible of all metals due to its total resistance to attack by bodily fluids. It is often used for surgical implants where the tissue is encouraged to assimilate the implant.
What gauge are skin divers?
Skin divers are 18 gauge at the post.
How wide is the base of a skin diver?
Skin divers are approximately 3mm wide at the base.
How wide is the top of a skin diver?
Skin diver tops are available in various widths. The most popular are 4mm and 3mm widths.
Are the tops of skin divers interchangeable?
The skin diver gem tops snap on and can be changed after the healing process is complete.
Where can I purchase additional skin diver gem tops?
We carry a wide selection of skin diver gem tops in various sizes and colors.
How soon can I change the skin diver top?
It is recommended that you do not change the skin diver top for at least 3 months.
How long does it take a skin diver to heal?
Initial healing takes about 2 weeks. Full healing can take 3 to 6 months.
How does the skin diver stay in place while it heals?
A 3M Tegaderm dressing will be placed over the skin diver and should not be removed for at least the first 72 hours.
What is a 3M Tegaderm dressing?
In addition to being completely transparent, it is also waterproof and breathable and can be worn for up to a week.
How can I secure the skin diver after removing the Tegaderm dressing?
A clean steri strip adhesive skin closure is recommended for daily use for the next 14 days.
How do I prevent a skin diver from being caught on material or other objects for the remainder of the healing process?
You can continue to wear a clean steri strip or a clean breathable dressing to help with this. Always ensure that you remove the steri strip or breathable dressing and allow the microdermal piercing to air over night.
Can I take a shower or bath as normal?
Showering is okay but you should avoid a steady stream of water on the microdermal piercing. Soaking is not recommended during the healing process.
What should I use to clean a microdermal piercing?
We highly recommend using either Black Cat Aftercare Piercing Solution or H2Ocean Piercing Aftercare Spray.
Can I use Bactine on a microdermal piercing?
Bactine is not recommended for puncture wounds.
Can I use alcohol or peroxide on a microdermal piercing?
Never use isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on or around your microdermal piercing because they may damage healthy cells and cause scar tissue.
Can I use antibiotic ointment on a microdermal piercing?
Ointments and other petroleum jelly products are not recommended for piercing aftercare as they can collect and promote the growth of bacteria.
Can I remove a skin diver once it is healed?
A skin diver can be removed by massaging the skin while maneuvering the base to the surface.
Will removing a skin diver leave a scar?
If properly removed, scarring is minimal and barely noticeable.
Is a microdermal piercing safe?
When all sterilization and sanitary guidelines are met, a microdermal piercing is completely safe. All instruments are sterile for each client. We use only disposable biopsy tools which are properly discarded after use.
